1985 white-tailed deer survey of Game Hunting Area 19 / Garth W. Ball.
"The south-eastern portion of Game Hunting Area (G.H.A.) 19 has previously been surveyed for white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in 1980 when the area was G.H.A. 24A. The weather was good with excellent viewing conditions. The deer were not grouped but the major portion of the deer were in the Alonsa Wildlife Management Area. The survey area was 564 square miles (1444 sq. km.). The area was divided into 5 strata. Two hundred and thirteen deer were observed for a population estimate of 1260 ± 27% or 1260 ± 340 deer. This is not significantly different than the 1980 estimate of 1586 ± 396 deer (Whaley 1980). The survey was flown from the 18-27 February 1986.
