Canada's Rangers : selected stories, 1942-2012

Summary: The Pacific Coast Militia Rangers were formed in 1942 to counter the threat of a Japanese invasion during the Second World War. After a brief postwar interlude, the Department of National Defence created the Canadian Rangers in 1947 to accommodate a unique form of military servcie in remote and isolated regions across Canada. Through sovereignty patrols and as guides and mentors to other members of the Canadian forces, the Rangers support national secrurity. In search and recue missions, resposes to avalanches, floods, and forest fires, and myraid local activities, the Rangers contribute to safety and security in commnunites. jAs the stories in this volume affirm, The Canadian Rangers are stalwart sentinels watching over the farthest raches of our country - a role they have proudly played for sixty-five years.
