Summary: The Pacific Coast Militia Rangers were formed in 1942 to counter the threat of a Japanese invasion during the Second World War. After a brief postwar interlude, the Department of National Defence created the Canadian Rangers in 1947 to accommodate a unique form of military servcie in remote and isolated regions across Canada. Through sovereignty patrols and as guides and mentors to other members of the Canadian forces, the Rangers support national secrurity.
