- Book News : Book News Reviews
This scholarly history of political policing in Canada over the past 150 years demonstrates that much of the country's secret surveillance was directed at Canadian citizens. Covering the period from the 19th century through the war on terror, the book draws on recently declassified government documents in addition to published and unpublished sources, including royal commission reports, a parliamentary review of the CSIS Act, the annual reports of the Security Intelligence Review Committee (published since 1985), and an official internal history written by two Royal Canadian Mounted Police historians. The book is illustrated with a wealth of historical and contemporary b&w photos, political cartoons, and posters. Whitaker is affiliated with York University. Kealey is affiliated with the University of New Brunswick. Parnaby is affiliated with Cape Breton University. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
